Autumn Favourites... Stevie Kelly

Some of you might be forging ahead with thoughts of Christmas and a new year but we still want to celebrate these mornings where we can layer, wrap and protect ourselves in an assortment of comfortable and practical fabrics. As belated fireworks light up the sky, the infamous coca cola truck streams across the television screen, crisp leaves carpet the streets and the air has an ever increasing bite to it, this evening is the perfect time to share another selection of Autumn Favourites.

Stephen Kelly (Stevie Style) is a menswear stylist, writer, model, presenter and actor who enjoys a spot of seasonal sartorial fun. Here, against a backdrop of a sleepy Shoreditch, he pair an assortment of favourites alongside recent finds...
----------

"Autumn is my favourite season for many reasons... the ability to add layers to an outfit, the celebration of all things cosy, soups, films, books and a good Sunday pint, it's when my birthday falls and the rich hues and colours we're surrounded by in nature. The last of these influence how I dress. I think the rich tones around us should inform the colours that we wear, a sentiment I saw echoed in a post by Style Salvage's very own Steve a few years ago. I have several varieties of garments in autumnal shades. From mustards and greens to plums and browns by way of camel and red, I enjoy getting in a few nods to the season throughout my outfit. All of which I'm looking forward to dusting off and wearing anew from their Summer slumber, these include a vintage camel Crombie, Dr Marten's Cherry red boots, a brown Acne leather jacket, Topman Design Tweed Wool trousers, a Carolyn Massey wool blazer and several cosy, colourful jumpers.

On this occasion  I might not be wearing obvious autumnal hues but my brogues and dark brown socks keep me happy along with the scarf and elbow patches on my sweatshirts. During the cooler months I love a coloured sock, I think it helps lift and brighten any outfit, even a dark suit can be playful with a hit of colour. As the weather is dark and grey who wouldd want their clothes to become dark and drab also? We all need a bit of colour."

"Coat is from Fred Perry - I love this coat, despite being a just a dark wool coat I love the football buttons, penny collar, the fit of it and the hidden polka dot lining. It can go from casual through to a more smarter look. Highly versatile.
Shirt is by Libertine Libertine - a brand I recently discovered and am a big fan of.
Jumper by Suit - a sweatshirt is a great transitional piece from summer to winter to keep out the cold before turning to the knitwear, all men should have one in grey, it's a key wardrobe staple.
Scarf was picked up  from somewhere in Scotland, not entirely sure where. My Nan got it me for Christmas a few years ago, but it has great colours and it's super soft cashmere so keeps me warm as the temperature drops.
My jeans are from Edwin - these are relatively new to my wardrobe but I love them, the colour and cut are just what I've been after and their quality will see me through many seasons to come.
The brown socks are from Uniqlo
The shoes are by Grenson - I've had these for years and I love them. They desperately need to be resoled but I'm struggling to part with them for the time that it would take!" Stevie Style.

Autumn Favourites... Will Westall

As mentioned in our recent post on Encens, we have always been fascinated by the idea of uniform. Many of us regularly turn to set clothing each morning for ease, comfort and confidence. With the addition or subtraction of a few layers, our sartorial habits of the everyday can prevail over any seasonal difference. In our latest instalment from the 'Autumn Favourites' series, Other's very own Will Westall tells us how an emergency charity shop buy has become an everyday favourite. Whatever the weather, his Levi's denim jacket adorned with an ever changing array of patches follows the model, stylist, creative web director and all round man about town wherever he treads. Here, against a backdrop of leaves falling under the autumn's spell, he dresses up for the season by wearing his old favourite with an assortment of his in store picks...

----------

"My Autumn favourite is my every day favourite. It's an old Levis denim jacket, nothing particularly special, but it's mine!

I've had this for years and years. I picked it up for a tenner in a charity shop because it was getting cold and I couldn't be bothered to go home before going to a party. I was already out West and going back to East London because I was cold felt a bit ridiculous, I didn't have my bike and I can't stand public transport... So I suppose I can thank my utter laziness for acquiring what's since become my most treasured item. I wear it every single day of the year. Over a shirt and jumper, a tee or under a coat. If it's not on my back, it's in my bag. Over the years it's been dyed, bleached, and re-dyded which has now actually given it a really nice super soft feel to it and a really deep inky colour. It'll probably stay as it is for at least a few more years, though I imagine the patches will chop and change here and there, They've all come from gigs or tees that have finally fallen to bits. Sadly I'm not one for sewing and they tend to fall off..."

"Full outfit run through...

Shirt - Blue flannel Thomas shirt by OTHER. Just a great cut, blue flannel button down shirt. Job done!

Sweater - Navy Albert sweat by OTHER. This one's turned into a bit of a staff favourite, it gets pretty cold in our studio, so we all end up in the same sweater at the end of the day...

Shoes - OTHER/T&F Slack, I was lucky enough to get my hands on these! Theyre not quite ready yet and still in production, so I was pretty stoked to be able to get my hands on a pair! Thanks Matthew!

Trousers - again I can thank Matthew for these ones! They were some old b Store samples that sadly never went into production, luckily for me, I managed to cop a pair and i cant seem to take them off now..." Will Westall

Autumn Favourites... Johnny Ridley

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns," wrote the Victorian novelist George Elliot. I think so many, when it comes to dressing atleast, have similar emotions. The mix of fabrics and textures that we wear on a daily basis combine to create our sartorial comfort blankets. Autumn just feels like home. This is certainly true of Johnny Ridley. Having recently returned from a year working in New York to join the Sane family in London, the seasonal snap currently being enjoyed in our capital is particularly welcome. Here, Ridley celebrates his homecoming in familiar favourites...
----------

"I've never quite understood the rules of dressing for summer; my twenty-something years in the nigh Baltic north schooled me in little beyond the merits of a 'proper jumper' and the fact I could always rely on my corner shop stocking a wonderful array of 'magic gloves,' irrespective of season. Years after leaving and nothing much has changed.

Having endured a sweat stained summer in New York, I find myself in the arms of a delightfully chilly London. Autumn's arrival has thankfully meant my wardrobe feels somewhat relevant again. I tend to go for hard wearing clothes, perhaps in part because most won't enjoy a seasonal retirement, or perhaps because my budget doesn't allow for rapid change. I love layering - as much for the look as the practicality of it all. Throwing a beautiful layer atop an existing outfit makes it all the more easy to step out and feel 'dressed'...it's just a case of finding those great pieces. This SEH Kelly knit fits with virtually anything and replaces a coat in the current weather...an easy choice. Boots are by U.S company Wolverine, super hard wearing and look better with age. The same applies to these jeans by Edwin. My R6 bag has been with my on all my travels and is deceptively large, carries everything I need and doesn't look too formal."
Ridley on feeling at home in Autumn.

Autumn Favourites... Daniel Jenkins

Autumn is here. There was little adjustment period from the sun setting on Summer and instead we were treated to a cool slap and a damp downpour to wake us up to the return of our favourite season. Taking a break from throwing all manner of protective clothing in to my suitcase in preparation for a weekend trip to Manchester, I thought I'd treat you to another look of Autumn favourites. Here, Daniel Jenkins turns to trusted garments. He doesn't care for the whims and fancies of the season and instead focusses on seasonal staples that have long proved themselves...
----------

"I'm Welsh and very pale so tend not to do too well in the summer months, I don't burn but I certainly don't tan and rarely feel comfortable. If it's hot, I'll just wear shirts and shorts which fine but not usually exciting. I like Autumn because it means that I can enjoy wearing clothes again. Everything I'm wearing today, I've had a while. I prefer everything feeling lived in. The jacket which is by Stansfield is four years old and just perfect for this climate. The Acne jeans are five old and I've practically worn them three days a week ever since I bought them and they have their own personality now (including a whole in the crotch). The shirt which is by ARN Mercantile is two years old. I bought the Lou Dalton mac the season that it was released but didn't wear it, I'm not sure why but I pulled it out last year and just fell for its charms all over again. I love that it's a little big so that I can wear it over a few layers. I won't be shivering in this outfit. The brogues are the only thing that I'm wearing that is less than a year old. They are Pembrokes by Crockett and Jones and I've only had them a couple of weeks but they are wearing in nicely and were so damn comfortable straight out of the box. I think they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn..."

Autumn Favourites... The Dandy Project

My role in all of this is very simple. I make clothing like armour. My clothing protects you from unwelcome eyes,” explains Yohji Yamamoto. We all need added armour during the cold, wet and wild months of autumn and blog favourite The Dandy Project has fully embraced the designer this coming season. On one of the hottest days afternoons of the year, we snapped two looks that Izzy was most looking forward to enveloping himself in over the coming months and both were built on solid sartorial foundations provided by Yamamoto...

----------

"This fall (Autumn), my look is highly influenced by my Asian heritage and my fascination with Japanese culture, and my obsession with the idea of comfort and the notion of dressing for oneself versus dressing for an audience. Lately, I've been going for voluminous, Samurai-esque bottoms, like the Yohji Yamamoto hakama pants photographed here and a new pair of cropped palazzo pants by Comme des Garcons Homme Plus that I have yet to debut. I'll find warmth and comfort in long double-breasted coats and robe-like jackets in tactile fabrics for the indoors, or out in the early fall. This autumn, still dark and dandy as the past few, will be my cosiest ever..."

Autumn Favourites... Rhamier Auguste

Oh how we love Autumn here at Style Salvage with its fruitfulness, its flowers and its hearty platefuls. Some of you might be desperately clinging on to the remnants of the season just passed but we love the upcoming mornings from late September through to December where we can layer, wrap and protect ourselves in an assortment of comfortable and practical fabrics. Wool, tweed, cashmere and anything else we can get our hands on are all layered in a rich fallen leaf palette to envelop, comfort and protect. Of course there is the occasional grim autumnal day where we look outside and want to do nothing but watch old films and hide away from the world but after a busy summer even these days can be most welcome. When the sun does shine we happily explore the ever changing landscape. So, to celebrate our favourite season we've asked a selection of our favourite people to tell us about the outfit that they are most looking forward to wear throughout these next few months. First up, Rhamier Auguste shot on the bustling streets of New York lit up by a final burst of summer sun during the sunset of New York fashion week...

"When it comes to dressing for cooler weather, I tend to go by two lines I've read in reviews for Patrik Ervell and Raf Simons's shows, respectively: "...a parallel universe for moody art-school kids with a thing for Joy Division" and "...English schoolboy with a background of Punk and New Wave". That said, I like the basics to be built around the idea that I'm an English schoolboy. I've even created an official uniform for the imaginary art school that I attend. I make a point to wear the 1461 model Doc Martens (Made In England, no less), a pair of tailored dress trousers or chinos, a club collar shirt (via Patrik Ervell) or a small collared oxford button-down shirt. Then I layer a sweatshirt or an alpaca knit sweater over it. The fashion pieces that I purchase to accompany this uniform tend to be more grunge/punk/new wave.

For the upcoming months, I look forward to wearing an archival Comme des Garcons Homme topcoat purchased second hand from a friend, my Kenzo tiger embroidered sweatshirt, and my Fair Isle leopard crew sweater from Sibling."
